FAQ

When is the best time to photograph my newborn?

I prefer to photograph newborns between 7 and 18 days old, but I have photographed babies sooner and later. It feels like a big ask to have my clients bring their brand new baby to the studio, but for my photography style, it's best to have a baby in studio that is super relaxed and able to fall into the sleepy poses parents love. Around 3 weeks, babies are more awake, alert, and may resist wrapped and unwrapped poses as they get stronger and less moldable. While it's not required for your baby to be sleepy, it is SUPER helpful. Your session may look different if you have an extremely alert baby.

How does booking a newborn session work?

Once you are ready to book and your retainer is received, I will pencil in your due date on my calendar. Once baby has arrived, I request that you reach out to me within 48 hours so we can select a date and time for your session. If you know your induction date or c-section date, we can schedule your session in advance.

Do we need to bring anything to the newborn session?

Just the basics - a pacifier, diapers, wipes, etc! I do not photograph babies in outfits brought from home. It is highly recommended that props from home aren’t brought to the studio for safety and cleanliness reasons. Small heirlooms upon request can be brought for photographing - please let me know in advance.

What do we wear?

If you know me, you know how much I love neutrals. This isn't just because I'm boring and don't want to see a pop of color. It's that neutrals photograph best in the studio and also photograph best outdoors with my particular editing style. Review my What To Wear Guide under the "Info" tab.

What is the typical turnaround time?

1 week! Often times, next day.

How many pictures will we receive?

You will receive all good images back, fully edited and to include some black and white edits. The exact amount will vary from session to session. Generally, galleries are no less than 50 images and often upward 100+ with the exception of mini sessions.

Do you offer custom packages?

Don't see what you're looking for? I also love to photograph weddings, elopements, boudoir, fresh 48, and more! Reach out to me with as many details and ideas about your session and I'll send you a custom quote.

What locations do you recommend?

Most sessions can be photographed at an outdoor location of your choice or in studio. I have my favorite local locations I love to shoot at and am always happy to give recommendations based on the type of setting you are hoping for. It's recommended to select one of my favorite locations as they usually have reliable lighting conditions.

When are outdoor sessions booked?

Outdoor sessions are best scheduled during the warmer months and when there is foliage on the trees (late May - late October). Outdoor sessions take place on weekdays either 1 hour before sunset or just after sunrise. The golden light during dawn and dusk is a huge part of my photography style. Depending on the time of year, a sunset session may begin around 5:30 PM or as late as 8:30 PM. On the flip side, a sunrise session could start as early at 5:30 AM or as late at 7:30 AM.

What happens if it rains or otherwise have bad weather?

I hold a few dates open each month of accommodate rescheduling due to weather. The decision is at the photographer's discretion and will not be made until the night before or morning of the session. If you are traveling from a distance, please reach out. Most sessions can also be done same day and time in studio, if needed. Please review our session policies under the "Info" tab for further information.
